Product validation is a process of assessing the production activities employed to produce a product or service. This may be a one-off development or prototype product or it could be the beginning of a long-term production/service run. The important aspect of the validation process is to effectively document the as-built condition, which includes the assurance that all technical and regulatory requirements are met, or documented in an appropriate material review record. Product validation also ensures that the product or service and be produced to the design requirements.

Product verification is focused on the recurring production or service rendering of an established product or service. Verification efforts may include a 100% inspection or testing of a product or service, or a sampling of key characteristics.
